Notes: This list shows the five most isolated peaks of each state. Since the definition of isolation here is the distance to nearest higher RANKED peak, the peaks generally fall into two distinctly different types. The first type is what is most familiar to many of us. It consists of peaks that derive their isolation by virtue of being the HIGHEST peak for miles around. The second type of peak in this list has a great isolation due to being in a relatively flat and extensive area devoid of ranked peaks. Thus, otherwise insignificant peaks have a large isolation.
