List "Eastern COHPs Over 4000 Feet" By wayfarer
Notes: This is a list of the Eastern U.S. summits and high points that are county highpoints, and over 4,000 feet in elevation. Nine of these summits are the highest point in two bordering counties. There are also a few more counties with more than one peak contending for the high point. Because of those uncertainties, one should climb all contending peaks in order to claim the county. These include Bald Knob, Cheat Mountain, and Thorny Benchmark for Pocahontas County, WV; Maintop Mountain and The Priest for Nelson County, VA; and Camp Creek Bald and Gravel Knob for Greene County, TN, and also Big Bald Mountain and Rich Mountain in Georgia. There is also a contender for Cherokee County, NC that is not currently in the LOJ database. That spot is at the junction of the Cherokee-Graham-Monroe County borders and southwest of 5,340' Laurel Top. A similar situation exists with Grant County, WV where the western edge of the county touches the top of Cabin Mountain to contend with Bell Knob. See cohp.org for more information.
