The next tracking list

I've had requests for many new lists for members to update, and I'd like to prioritize these by popularity. I'll probably do as follows - run a poll to decide the next member area every x amount of days, then add another candidate list to the next poll pool.

All Lists combined

Maybe a list of all the mountains on this site with a column for each list that they fit in, eh John. :P I can see you have already done a lot of work here whats a few more hours. Of course if we had this master tick list it could automatically populate all the appropriate lists, or am I missing something here?

I suppose that list would be a bit large, I was just looking for a way to know easily all the catagories a particular peak would fit into, maybe just additional info for each peak in the lists they already exist under.

The overlapping nature of these lists is perturbing to many, fascinating to some, and a pain in the ass to others :x . Some people like the fact that they get to check off and look at multiple lists separately while others see it as superfluous labor. Because not everyone wants to track all lists, updating cannot be automatic to all lists from a master table. I've tried to simplify things somewhat by allowing sort criteria for updating the large 1k prominence list.
(i.e. Elevation, Name, Quadrangle, etc.): http://listsofjohn.com/Prominence/Members/main.php
A useful feature when viewing large tables is employing the Ctrl + F key combination to search pages to find what you're looking for.

Building a Master List Table (view only) is something I'll look into to help make things a little more organized. The entertainment value of "How many lists can you tick something off on if climbing this peak" is worthwhile as well - Mounts Elbert, Whitney, and Rainier for instance appear on four.

Hey John, just what is that avatar guy you have there? I noticed that he even shows up as the website icon in Firefox (when using Tab view). I just added mine... yes, another from Futurama.... the Hypno-Toad!

Heh heh,

It is an enlarged version of the profile icon Image I created that you see at the top of the forum menu:

As for the web icon:
I started using it as favicon.ico (icon for favorites) on my root directory because I was tired of 404 errors - I like my site to be error - free (I'm not too good at that yet). Basically, browsers ask for a favicon.ico when parsing the page, and if you don't have one, it shows up as an error in your error logs. Plus, some browsers display the icon in favorites, which can be kind of cool, I suppose.

John: Since the inmates are getting some say in the running of the asylum, here's another idea. How about allowing members to enter the date climbed of the peak? (Either multiple dates or just first time.) To me, this is a key part of my lists. It could also be useful to see when a particular peak has been climbed, particularly for non-summer ascents.

(I realize this would create much more work for people like Kirk than for myself!)

I was going to suggest the same thing as Layne (date input) but figured I had already made too many suggestions.

This will not be that soon, but I think I'll add a column that people can optionally add a date to after checking peaks as complete (a drop down Year, Month, Day selection for validation). Again because some people won't use this feature, convenience must default to the minimum-customization user. In other words, more bells and whistles will require extra work on the client side as well.

This is probably not quite what you were looking for, but here is my attempt to provide the info you're requesting:

That will work just fine, thanks.

I find it interesting that Colorado a state noted for mountains has only one National Park with a high point of any significance, Longs Peak. Wyoming has two, California and Alaska have many.
Hmm, I may have 3 of the 4 in Colorado, better confirm.

John, thanks again for bringing us this site. How about a list for just national parks visited? High points are for climbers alone, but many of the parks I've visited (Olympic, Capitol Reef, Zion, etc) have many other interesting features other than just their high points. Just a thought.

I'll put this suggestion in the next poll later today so we can vote on it.
