Kalet, Knapp County Completions!

Postby lukePlumley » Sat Aug 04, 2012 11:15 am

On July 14 Brian Kalet and Steve Knapp became the 4th and 5th completers of the Pueblo County ranked peaks list. Congratulations guys. I know that list has some tough access peaks!

Then on July 22, Brian went on to finish off the ranked peaks of El Paso County. He is the 7th to finish off that list.

This was the 14th county completion for Steve and the 10th and 11th county completions for Brian!

Which peaks were your finishers guys?

Thanks Luke, you are always great at noticing these things. Pueblo county is only a whopping nine peaks, we started and finished the massive list in about four months and a few separate hikes. The peaks are more spread out than one would think, so it worked best for us to get a few at a time.

The Pueblo finisher was Greenhorn Mountain. It was good to save the only alpine peak for last. Good views up there, the 3k of prominence is noticeable when you look down on the surrounding plains below. Of course anyone who has been up there knows what a short hike it is, only 4 miles RT and 1500' gain. So to fill the day we went on to climb an additional ten peaks in nearby Custer county to make for a really memorable day.

Congrats to Brian on the El Paso completion as well!

I finished El Paso on Sheep Mountain linking it up with 5 other peaks for a 15.6 mile hike with 7100' of gain. Its probably best to reserve this hike for a cooler day.

Steve, you don't *have* to go up Greenhorn the short way :-D There's the Bartlett Trail out of Rye (though I wouldn't do it in this heat...).

Congrats on the new county completion!
