Gore Creek Trail campsites

Postby ClimbingCooneys » Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:24 pm

Looking for specific campsite information along the Gore Creek Trail. Anyone remember some good camp spots & mileage from the Vail trailhead? Planning a later summer backpack/peakbagging trip that would include Grand traverse, Snow, Valhalla, Silverthorne, etc. and am considering options of lugging packs all the way up to the upper lakes & high passes or setting up a couple of "base" camps along the main Gore Creek trail for dayhike possibilities.

We just climbed "Silverthorne" and "Hail" yesterday, and I would say the best camping was in the stretch after leaving the Gore Lake Trail heading up the valley and wrapping around to Snow Lake. The area just before the valley heads left to Snow Lake was fantastic, secluded, and with plenty of water and easy access at least to Silverthorne, Hail, and Snow. A faint trail leaves the Gore Creek trail at an obvious cairn in a meadow within the last half mile to Gore Lake.

I climbed Silverthorne from a camp at the junction of the Gore Lake and Gore Creek trails.
It was a pretty easy 4-5 miles from the trailhead, as best as I can remember.
