Crooked Top Mountain Elevation

Postby Brian Kalet » Mon Apr 04, 2011 1:02 pm

Does the Crooked Top Benchmark show an elevation of 10,465'?
If not, I am curious about the source for the 10,465' elevation given for Crooked Top Mountain.

Is there a consistent method for using elevations from maps other than the 1:24k quads? If so, perhaps it should be outlined here.

I know LoJ doesn't use NGS data, but they show it as 10,470, so it is certainly close.

Spot elevations are derived from the most current USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle. Often newer versions do not inclue a spot elevation and the spot elevation is retained from an older version. Elevations may also come from larger scale maps when spot elevations do not exist on the 7.5 minute quadrangle but do on larger scale maps.

This doesn't explain why the 10,020' elevation is retained from the 15 minute quad for West Antelope Mountain.

Yeah, I don't know why that was there. Updated it...
