On October 1st Dave became the fourth person to complete Chaffee County! Way to go Dave, a large county with plenty of high peaks to tackle. How many did W accompany you on?

Way to go dhgold! Man it's fun to watch you post all your peaks. You have a knack for creative combinations. Your trip report comments are also insightful. Congrats to W as well...jp

Congrats Dave! Another great county list. It's amazing how few people you see up there outside of the 14ers.

Chaffee county has over 60 ranked 13ers. You sure have been hitting the CO 13er list hard, over 500 in the past five seasons with only 39 left I think? That's very impressive!

Thanks, all.

Chaffee and Pitkin counties were where I was first exposed to the Colorado mountains and for that reason represent for the me the essence of the Colorado high country. So, 43 years after my first Chaffee (and 2nd CO) peak, Mt Princeton, it was quite satisfying to complete Chaffee's ranked peaks. (Though I'd like to, I don't know if I'll get around to finishing Pitkin, particularly since I already have a couple of inconvenient orphans.)

Summit of Mt Chapman, my penultimate Chaffee peak.

Wilbur the dog has done about 150 Chaffee peaks with his main omissions being most of the 14ers and the Three Apostles.

As far as favorites, the remarkable similarity of Chaffee's peaks above timberline means that not much stands out. However, I still have strong memories of an epic failure on Harvard at summer camp in '72 -- the mountains were a lot bigger then. For pure enjoyability, 13374 was a very pleasant hike -- a lot of trail, no bushwhacking -- in nice weather that I was able to savor since I did it as a singleton and so wasn't in a rush to get on with the rest of the day's agenda.
