"Mt. Lion" (Waterton Canyon)

Postby PaulStratmoen » Fri Nov 01, 2013 1:08 pm

Hi John,

Here’s a peak in Waterton Canyon that you may want to consider adding to the list. It’s point 6407, which is just west and a bit south of ranked point 7100. The Waterton Canyon trailhead sign seems to indicate it as “Mt. Lion”. While their depiction doesn’t seem to be quite to scale, point 6407 is the only summit in that vicinity that’s within the National Forest boundary, as shown on that sign.

Beau Jeanmard is the one who found this. He described it here - http://coloradoclimbers.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=360&p=1057&hilit=6407#p1057.

Thanks!

Jeremy Hakes brought this to my attention about a year ago, thinking it was 7558, but clearly the map shows it south of Bear Gulch. I can only guess it is the 6407 point also, but it could also refer to 6300' here:

Here's the addition:

It doesn't appear on historical quads or forest service maps.

Isn't in my book on the area, either (where Coffee Pot Hill, etc. came from).
