bikeable front range mountains

Postby nikolai » Mon Jul 08, 2013 7:14 am

I have a plantar fascia injury, and I have already re-hurt it trying to come back to hiking too soon.

However, bicycling is pain free.

In order that I can still attempt to play along with the rest of you this summer, can you please suggest some bikeable mountains I can pay visits to. I have both a road and a mountain bike. Ranked or unranked mountains are fine, and the road/trail has to be within a short casual stroll of the summit.

Thanks!

Also in Larimer County, Deadman Lookout and Laramie Mtns HP and South Bald Mountain would make fine bike rides with very little hiking. Crown Point as well would be a nice one.

If you are interested in higher elevation peaks, there are definitely some old mining roads or 4x4 roads that get up near the summits of a few. Ski area service roads could be useful as well.

Santa Fe from the town of Montezuma via Morgan Gulch might be a good one? http://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/Climbers.php?Id=626

Peaks 8 and 10 from Breck ski area have roads that get pretty high, but not all the way to the summit:

There are some 11ers north of Silverthorne with great Gore Range views as well, Williams Benchmark probably had the better views as the summit was more of a meadow: http://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/Climbers.php?Id=2017
