zoom/pan on google maps

John - On the peak stats pages, I noticed the google map no longer has the zoom or pan options or choice of map type. Any chance of bringing those features back? Or is this a java/browser issue on my end? I used the pan/zoom all the time, but now its gone

Yeah, I noticed this missing too. I usually just use the link to the MyTopo map for all my panning and zooming though.

Odd. Mine works: pan, zoom, and the different map choices are still there (map, satellite, hybrid, terrain & topo). Are you clicking on "Click here for large Google Map - all peaks in this quad"?

As Susan said, if you click on the "Click Here for Large Google Map - All Peaks in this Quad" button you get all of the "old" options on the big map, but the small maps only have the topo.

I disabled the small map functions except clicking on it which links to the quad map where all the other options are. I removed all the options because of browser compatibility problems some users expressed - the options don't fit within a 400px by 300px map on all browsers or browser settings. You don't need to click on the quad link, just the small map. Try out the new 'Full Screen Topo Map' link, which functions like acme but without the wait. From there, you can click to get a link for your current view or click the link for the quad containing all the peaks in the center coordinates.

There are basically 3 map links on the peak profile pages -
1) Click on the small map, and this takes you to the quad map, centering on the peak in the profile with a zoom of 15.
2) The quad link (all peaks in this quad), which takes you to the center of the quad with a zoom of 12
3) Full Screen Topo Map, which takes you to a full screen version centered on the peak's coordinates, default zoom of 15 (can click on links in bottom right of screen to create your own links with any zoom level you want based on the current map zoom).

The small map itself has a title text that pops up when hovering over it guiding you to click on it:

Check, that works - great.

Yup, that's what I usually use.

This doesn't work for me. In fact, the small map appears zoomed in 15x by default on the page, and clicking on it doesn't do anything but allow me to pan.

Good info Susan, Mike, John. It'd become almost reflex for me to zoom out on the stat page map to look for an approach. Opening the entire quad map and relocating the peak was not quite as fast, but the "Full Screen Topo map" looks more effective. Having the quad available on LoJ using google maps vs ACME/Terraserver is a big improvement.

Just tried it, works OK for me. Must have just been fixed.

I haven't changed it since Sunday.

OK - there was an issue for Internet Explorer where clicking the small map didn't do anything (IE doesn't seem to like links before or within div tags). Changed the link with a javascript onclick event and it works in both IE and Firefox now. You should consider Firefox Susan!

I liked being able to mark a point and then measure the distance to it from another spot
