Distance calculation added to unclimbed CO Prominence

Postby John Kirk » Fri Apr 07, 2006 10:44 am

When you log in to the CO Prominence area, there is a link to enter your coordinates. After entering these, peaks will be sorted by distance with distance listed from you when you are selected from the index page (when 'see unclimbed peaks' is selected). This currently displays distance for both the top 100 prominence and 1k+ prominence peaks. I will add this feature to other lists soon. You only need to enter coordinates once for all lists. For trip planning purposes, this will be very handy to enter coordinates for a selected base of operations to determine the closest peaks from that location. Here's what it looks like:

CO 13ers, 12ers, 11ers, and 10ers now have this feature as well. Counties will probably be last since I don't have coords for a lot of them.

I haven't been able to get the distance column, can you explain how to display it?

First, select a user from the list area to see their peaks. If they have entered coordinates, the unclimbed peaks will be sorted by descending distance. It should look like this:

Thanks, John. Here I've been thinking my nearest US unclimbed P2k was Pikes Peak but Hagues and Laramie are slightly nearer. Can anybody else top 1700 miles?

What confused me is that while you can see this for all members (including yourself) it doesn't appear on your own list under "Update Peaks" which is where I expected it.
