Colorado low peaks

Postby Layne Bracy » Thu Feb 09, 2006 4:44 pm

I thought I would start a new thread to post topozone coordinates for the Colorado low peaks. In particular, peaks(points with 300' prominence) on the plains. However, the lowest peaks of mountainous counties would be of interest, too, especially if they are under 5000'. So far only 4 Colorado 4ers are known to me.

Prowers County
Two Buttes 4711'(Prowers County highpoint)

Bent County
Point 4855'(Bent County highpoint)
Point 4770'
Using Olson's coordinates, I saw that it is in the same township as Pt 4855'. From there it is easy to get to section 18, knowing the grid pattern Ryan posted, and the sections are labeled in red on topozone. Note that there are actually 2 contours of 4760', the southern one much larger. If cohp ever gets an approved visit to the county hp, I'll suggest we try to get permission to do this one, too.

Baca County
Point 4790'
This one was a little more painful to get to - I just moved right and down from the Bent County point until I got to the right section. Looks like a nice hill, only about 1/2 mile from New Mexico.
