A Mother-Daughter Saturday shopping adventure was my ticket to make a drive out to Illinois to bag
the closest highpoint. The landowners were very polite and gave good instructions
to find the parking spot to begin the 'hike'. The parking area wasn't marked, so the
specifics came in handy. I began the 2.5 mile run up the road shown on the right. There
was a little wind and snow (nothing new), but the humidity does wonders to make it feel colder
than I am used to. Within minutes, the final stretch appeared as I passed two frozen 'tarns'. A couple more minutes, and the
summit marker was abruptly visible.
