| A couple hours after wrapping up Unnamed 13,895', I finished the long drive up to Blowout Pass and began this easy hike at 2:40 p.m. Ironically the first three miles of this road were by far the worst, terrbily washboarded. Bennett is very broad and increasingly difficult to fit in a camera lens. I had seen dozens upon dozens of 4-wheel ATVs on the drive in and I thought I had a reprieve from them now. The mellow trail leading to the summit was appropriate for the level of exertion I was willing to take on after the long hike earlier in the day. I saw the first of many more ATVs at the steepest section of road. Many sections were so depleted of structure that it more made sense to stay off it. Views of the surrounding 12ers contrasted with distant, hazy 13ers, including Conejos and Summit Peaks. The humidity was working its obscuring magic today. Near the summit it really started to seem like ATV hell. I counted off 16 returning from the summit as I hiked up. The drive home wasn't too bad up 285, and I enjoyed a green chile cheeseburger from the Sonic in Monte Vista. | ![]() |
