On such a spectacular day weatherwise, I was longing for more lofty adventures, but as it was with family in town, I opted for a short trip to Red Rokcs to take on Mount Morrison with my Dad. We started at the parking lot to the South of the ampitheater, as listed on a map on summit post. This was a waste of time, as the amiptheater lot was several hundred feet higher. We slogged up the steep slope off-trail unaware of the nice trail a few hundred yards to our North until we crested the ridge and intersected it. On the right is the first view of Mount Morrison from the Southeast shoulder. The route eased up a bit, but my Dad wasn't up for the last 400' scramble to the top. The chain-link fence was perhaps the toughest obstacle of the day. Below, from the summit, Mount Evans is once again the dominant massif visible from Jefferson County.
