Green Mountain & Mount Carbon 10/24/04

Green Mountain 6,855'

A quick Sunday morning jog is about the extent of this short hike. I had a hard time finding a place to park on the East side of C-470, and took Bear Lake to Alameda, parking near Dinosaur Ridge Park. Sidewalk dominates the first ½ mile, then I opted to bushwhack up the slope for the remaining 600' of gain. I was glad I was the only person to visit thus far today, as Mountain Bikers have spoiled other nearby trips before. The view of the city from the top was unique with morning rays of sunshine veiled by two layers of clouds. A nice view of Mount Evans peeking up above the foothills is featured on the right.

Mount Carbon 5,722'

I did absolutely no research on this named summit. I was surprised to see a golfer gawking at me as I slowed down to figure out access from the north. There is better access by parking at West Nelson St. south of 285 from the Simmis Exit - more sidewalk awaits. The highest ground is probably manmade now (photo on right shows where GPS coordinates mark the summit). It was hard to tell, but the tee area at the western-most end seemed a little higher.
