Last Highpoint Photo - "East Crestone" 09/03/05

 Updates (as of 09/06/05)

Labor Day weekend worked out to finish Colorado's Counties with a scramble up "East Crestone" 09/3/05 from Cottonwood Creek.
A four-day excursion 08/12/05 - 08/15/05 included Vermilion Peak, a wedding and Hesperus Mountain & Lavender Peak leaving only East Crestone to complete the Centennial State.
A long day of driving and fast hiking whitteled my list down to three remaining counties, grabbing Black Mountain after Mount Zirkel 07/30/05.
A quick weekend trip to the San Juans netted Summit and Conejos Peaks 07/16/05 and Del Norte Peak 07/17/05.
I joined Layne Bracy for an early hike of Unnamed 13,895 and later soloed Bennett Peak07/02/05.
Teresa Gergen, Kirk Mallory, Ryan, and Erin added Weld County to our completion list 11/14/04.
A long drive for an 11er, Mt. Lamborn put me 10 away from finishing Colorado's counties 10/02/04.
A long day of 4 other 13ers, a 12er and Hagues Peak is better known as Mummy Mania. We did this 09/18/04.

What's the "point" of county highpointing?

picture I'm still wrestling with this question. Many fourteeners gave me a good head-start on this list. There's something about expanding the radius of points achieved on a map that is satisfying. For most county highpoints, it serves as a good excuse to get out and see places I wouldn't see otherwise. Now that Colorado is complete, I will likely still work on other states. picture
