Mount Lady Washington 13,281' 02/26/06

Time for my last hike in my 20's. What should I choose? Well, a thirteener sounds like a good idea. Mount Lady Washington will do. I started on the Longs Peak trail at about 7:45, enjoying the efforts of others who have packed the trail prior to my arrival. I am surprised how well it goes actually, and end up above treeline in a little over an hour. The wind is minor, so it seems this will be a successful outing today. I only spot one other group near Chasm Lake. The northeast face makes for a relatively windless ascent, and is an optimal winter route being so scoured. picture

Wind on the summit was definitely unpleasant, and any regretful longings to have attempted Mount Meeker instead dissipate rather rapidly. The descent is uneventful, and relaxing. I arrive back at the trailhead at noon, foregoing an attempt at Estes Cone despite my good fortune with a quick hike of Lady Washington.
