Mark Baines was climbing a technical route on Royal Mountain unroped when he fell to his death.

June 23, 1979

Bob French was leading a route on the 10,385' point near Royal Mountain when he fell 40 feet. His protection did not withstand the fall and he dislocated his ankle upon impact.

July 2, 1979

Ron Swett was rappelling Royal Mountain when the knot in the square-knot anchor tied to a tree came loose and he fell 40 feet. He sustained head injuries since he was not wearing a helmet and was in a coma until a few days later, when he recovered.

August 5, 1979

John Wood and Christina Moir were descending Red Peak via a glissade down a couloir on the West Ridge when Wood requested to halt the glissade due to steep conditions. Moir went anyway, losing control. Wood grabbed Moir in an attempt to stop her, but both slid down the couloir, impacting the sides of it. Moir hiked down to render assistance for Wood, who sufferd broken ribs and a collapsed lung. He was evacuated via helicopter.

August 9, 1981

An unknown climber was struck and killed by lightning on Mount Guyot.

September 5, 1983

Donald Thomas was trying to retrieve his dog from a narrow ledge that it had wandered onto on Mount Powell when he fell to his death 200 feet into a gully.

July 1987

An unknown Fisherman was ascending a 50 degree snowfield en route to Bubble Lake during thunderstorms when he slipped and slid 600 feet impacting rock. He suffered a broken leg.

December 2, 1990

Two unknown males were ascending a slope on a peak near Copper Mountain when an avalanche swept them downward, burying one who did not survive.

July 6, 1996

K. D. was ascending the Northwest couloir on Mount Powell without protection because of poor snow conditions and fell down the couloir, impacting the sides. He suffered broken arms and collarbones.

A 12 year-old boy was climbing Peak 8 with his family when he slid 200 feet attempting to glissade, suffering cuts, head injuries, and leg fractures.

Two male Copper Mountain Resort employees, 18 and 20 years old, became stranded on "Three Tiers" just south of I-70 after following the Wheeler Trail from Copper Mountain. They spent the night on the ledge before they were rescued the following day in hypothermic states.

Mary Katherine Wiper was struck by lightning in Little French Gulch near Breckenridge. She perished before help could arrive to resuscitate her.

An unknown male was hiking the trail on Mt. Royal with one arm in a cast and the other to be operated on soon. He slipped and broke his leg on a loose section of trail. Rescuers were notified by his friend hiking with him and later and carried him out.
