Old Man Mountain Accidents

April 27, 1985

Toby Cotter was demonstrating the necessity of being belayed at all times by intentionally letting go of the rope while being belayed. His belayer was not able to control the rope, and he impacted a ledge. He suffered a skull fracture, collarbones, and forearms. He was carried out and arrived at a hospital in stable condition.
