Bo Mitchell and Mark Fervert were descending Notchtop after a successful ascent of the Spiral route when rockfall hit them from above. Frevert was killed by the impact of a rock to the head and Mitchell, able to walk, attempted to reach safety but died of hypothermia during the night.Source: Accidents in North American Mountaineering, 1984
