McHenrys Peak Accidents



July 9, 1950

George Cowles was hit by rockfall near the summit and fell 200 feet, receiving a concussion and several cuts and abrasions. He was carried out by a rescue team.

August 21, 1978

Tom Hillmer was traversing a snow slope when he slipped and impacted rocks at the base of the snowfield. He suffered The impact broke both arms and shattered his kneecap. He was later carried out by rescuers.
