July 31, 1948

Donald Vodicka was descending Kreuger Rock near Estes Park on a more difficult-than necessary face when he lost his holds and fell 150 feet to his death.

June 30, 1956

John Wetzel was climbing a face above the Poudre River and fell 140 feet, impacting the face on the way down. Despite a belay that prevented him from hitting the ground, Wetzel died soon afterward.

April 23, 1961

Charles Blackmon was part of a practice rescue exercise to lower and raise a litter near Virginia Dale. he began climging a crack system when he could not continue, ans fell to a leadge 15 feet below, suffering a fractured wrist.

September 20, 1964

Jim Russell, Penny McMahon, and Gary Hartman were climbing The Thumb near Estes Park when Hartman fell 6 feet, striking Russell on a ledge. Both fell, one hitting McMahon 30 feet lower. Hartman perished due to a broken neck while McMahon was knocked unconscious. Russell suffered cuts and bruises.

April 29, 1979

John Newman was ascending Arthur's Rock near Fort Collins when he lost a foothold and fell 7 feet due to a faulty protection carabiner. He suffered minor injury and was able to complete the climb.

Pam Spence fell to her death climbing Lover's Leap when her rope became untied at he harness as she pendulumed at a crux.

Joe Eyre was at he base of a pitch near Horsetooth Reservoir when his partner fell on Eyre's head, causing Eyre's broken leg.

July 26, 1992

Robinson Upton was ascending the Southwest side of Arthur's Rock in Lory State Park when protection pulled out. He did not survive his 30 foot fall.

Daniel Samuelson was snowboarding on South Diamond Peak when he was swept away in an avalanche to his death.

Robert Christiansen was snowshoeing South Diamond Peak 100 feet below ridgeline up a gully when an avalanche swept him 600 feet and buried him 1 foot deep. He was found dead.

Dave Horad fell 40 feet while climbing near Horsetooth Falls, sustaining injuries.

Judy Curtis was hiking in Hell's Canyon when a multi-ton rock came loose and pinned her leg. A tree in between the fallen boulder and the ground prevented the boulder from destroying her leg. She had abrasions and was carried out without fractures.

Nathan Bell was hiking near Cameron Pass on a 6-day backpacking trip when he collapsed and died from altitude sickness.

Hillel Ben-Avi went missing near the summit of Fairchild Mountain and was not spotted until 3 days later by helicopter while waving a shirt with a fishing rod he found.
