September 2, 1951

Dale Johnson fell 55 feet while climbing an unknown peak in the Needle Mountains. He spent the night while his partner summoned help from Silverton.

July 26, 1953

Phyllis Anderson was rappelling from the saddle of Twin Tumbs and Peak 11 when a piton came out. She fell 30 feet and landed on her pack (that was on her back), then started to slide down a 30 degree snow slope above cliff faces. Her partner, Barry Bishop was able to grab the rope she was trailing and arrest the slide. She was later carried out to the train.

August 23, 1973

Mark Chwirka was ascending "Slingshot Pinnacle" on a CMC trip in No-Name basin when a handhold came loose about 400' up the rute and he impacted the rock face . He was at first unconscious and could not move well. The next morning, he was lowered and later found to have sprained his neck.

July 23, 2002

Andrew Nelson fell 30 feet from the left side of X-Rock near 38th & Main St. in Durango. He suffered ankle and back injuries.

A 17-year-old male was hiking on Columbine Pass when he fell, sustaining sufficient injury to require helicopter evacuation.

Nathan McCuiston was hiking along Cacsade Creek when he slipped and fell to his death. His body was found in the creek.

A climber fell 30 feet from a face while roped near East Animas Road. The climber was later rescued.
