Ronald Cumella, who had previously climbed all the Colorado 14ers fell to his death while climing the peak solo. Rescuers found his body several days later.

Emil Boden apparently fell to his death here in 1999, as a memorial was in place with his name.

Tom Gibb, a CMC climbing instructor, was ascending the North Ridge with Stewart Penn when rock came loose which caused Gibb to fall to his death. While both had brought technical gear, it is not clear that it was used when the fall occured.

Dougals Bench began a glissade down the Kirk Couloir when he lost control and fatally impacted rock. He did not have an ice axe.
