October 19, 1996

Steven Permick was climbing solo the Leisure route in the Black Canyon and fell 60 feet before he ever pulled his rope out of his pack. His body was found later after he had been missing.

June 17, 2000

Zach Alberts was climbing the Cruise Gully in the Black Canyon when he fell from 10 feet above his last protection. He sustained ankle injuries and was later rescued.

July 9, 2000

Martha Moses was climbing 50 feet above her last protection on the Cruise Gully in rainfall. She fell 80 feet and sustained skull fractures, and was lifted out to be operated on at St. Mary's Hospital.

September 2, 2002

Brent Mitchell was climbing Crystal Vision in the Black Canyon when he fell failed to reach a hold and fell 40 feet, suffering serious injuries. Over 40 local personnel assisted in the rescue.

Martin Scott Larsen fell 2,000' to his death in the Black Canyon and was later found at the base of Chasm View.

May 15, 2003

Justin Durois was climbing in the Black Canyon 600' below Chasm Overlook when he slipped on loose raok and fell. His rope stopped him, but not before he suffered back injuries.

October 22, 2005

An 37-year-old male was climbing 'Escape Artist' in the Black Canyon when he fell 60 feet, suffering broken legs and pelvis. He was seen by other climbers who lowered him to safety before he was arilifted out.

July 17, 2006

Seven hikers were struck by lightning while seeking shelter under a tree near Marble in Lead King Basin. Two were seriously injured by the strike as four others hiked out for help. Rescue efforts were successful.
