Ellingwood Point Accidents



July 28, 1986

Michael Levine was a member of a CMC party attempting the East Face. After the CMC group turned back due to rockfall heard above, Levine refused, and continued. His body was found on August 31st, 800 feet below the summit.

Jim Schultz, Pastor, died near the summit on his descent in the same area as Levine a year previous.

August 13, 1994

Judge David McKinley encountered heavy rains on his ascent of the East Face of Ellingwood point, his last fourteener to complete. His body was found at the base of the East Face, suggesting he fell on wet rock while ascending.

August 17, 1995

Jim Mills and his brother David set out to climb the Northeast Face of Ellingwood Point, when David turned around back to camp. Jim was never seen again after the California/Ellingwood saddle, and his body was not found until September 2005.
