Douglas County Accidents



September 27, 1949

James Nuadack was climbing Devil's Head and attempted to jump over an exposed gap. He failed to complete the jump, and jammed his foot in between some rocks. Unable to extricate himself, he was rescued 12 hours later with a rope.

March 31, 2002

An unknown 60 year-old woman was hiking in Castlewood Canyon State Park when she fell and suffered head injuries. She only survived for a few days after being hospitalized.

An unknown 22 year-old male was bouldering in Castlewood Canyon State Park when he fell and suffered critical injuries.

An unknown 18 year-old male fell while bouldering the same are as the day previous in Castlewood Canyon State Park, suffering a fractured pelvis and other injuries as a large boulder landed on him.

April 3, 2005

An unknown 20 year-old female was bouldering in Castlewood Canyon when she fell three or four feet and broke her leg. She was carried out and taken to the hospital.

An unknown female was ..." solo climbing on Sheepsnose and took a small fall at the start of the route. She suffered compound fracture of the tibia/fibula and was evacuated after calling 911 on her cell phone."
