Deer Mountain Accidents



August 15, 1976

John Purvis was leading Deer Mountain Buttress when an anchor came loose and he fell 30 feet. His belayer stopped the rope at this point, and Purvis suffered a broken leg and a deep cut.

1987

John Schnakenberg, a novice climber was ascending a snow covered 5.6 rockface on the South side of Deer Mountain when he fell to his death.
