John Link was running from Thunder Lake to the Continental Divide as a training run for the Pikes Peak Marathon when he fell near the base of The Cleaver. He apparently descended upon realizing the terrain was difficult, falling to his death while doing so.Source: Accidents in North American Mountaineering, 1981
