While his partners were able to self arrest, he slid past them and impacted rocks below. He suffered fractures of his arm, collarbone, and leg. One was able to keep above the debris, the the other was dug out shortly after he came to rest.Source: www.fourteenerworld.com ~ the forum February 15, 2004David Benson and Willa Johnson were swept down from the 12,500' level north of Herman Gulch by an avalanche to the floor of the gulch. The two skiers were traveling on separate paths, exacerbating the instability of the snow. Johnson was not completely buried and able to dig herself out, and soon spotted the pack of Benson protruding. Benson was buried for 5 minutes and unconscious before his companions assisted with breathing resuscitation. Not able to navigate in the storm, they constructed a makeshift shelter and stayed through the night. Both suffered severe hypothermia, and Greg did not survive the night.Source: Rocky Mountain News May 14, 2005A Canadian with the first name of Tim was descending the South Slopes of Mount Bethel when he slipped and punctured his sinus cavity above his left eye with his ice axe. He was helped to the trailhead by his partners and taken to the emergency room in Frisco.Summitpost.org October 9, 2005Leonard Weeks and his son Benjamin were hiking near Metz Creek and became lost in a snowstorm. By the following morning, Benjamin made out out to summon help.
