A Slovakian couple by the names of Stano and Martina had ascended Kit Carson and were descending the lower switchbacks of the Willow Creek Trail about a mile from the trailhead in deteriorating weather after returning over Challenger point. They were both struck by lightning. Stano was conscious and waited for rescue to arrive to assist Martina, but flash flooding created access problems, and rescue could not arrive in time.Source: Fourteenerworldforum.com
