Welcome to Colorado Mountaineering Accidents (by John Kirk)

I am quite an avid climber and hiker. I began routes in Colorado in the Spring of 2000. I have always been intrigued by the accounts I have heard relating to mountaineering accidents in Colorado - where and how they happened. This site is by no means comprehensive. I have compiled summaries from many stories and articles, and continue to do so. This site is a work in progress not only as new accidents unfortunately happen, but also because I have limited resources and data. Every time I search, however, I always run across something I have not seen before. Perhaps the greatest untapped resource is personal accounts. I invite anyone with any knowledge of accidents in Colorado not reported here to e-mail them to me, and I will acknowledge contributors in the account I write up.
